God’s Gift to Israel’s Kings

Hand-copying the Bible was a gift mandated to Israel's Kings

Intrigued by my own experience with hand-copying passages from the Bible. I began to research the practice and quickly found instructions given to the future kings of Israel in Deuteronomy 17:18-19. (NIV)

“When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites.

It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees…”

Upon ascending the throne, the King was required to make a copy of the law in his own hand, for himself.

God's purpose for this discipline is clear. When you do this, you will learn to revere the Lord and follow the law carefully.

There is something inherent in the act of copying out God's word that increases reverence and care for the law.

This is both a promise and an encouragement to us. You can expect to experience an increase in reverence for God and a natural increase in your care for Him and his law, simply by committing to this practice over the coming weeks.

Hello!...and take note...this isn't my promise (who am I!?).

It's God's promise.

So you know it's true. And you know it's good.

P.S Share the journey and the joy by forwarding this email or this link to a friend. It's great to share and will increase your own enjoyment immeasurably.
